Treatment with flexibility
Home dialysis
Our person-centred dialysis programmes are developed to provide you with the treatment needed to improve your condition, and the independence and flexibility to receive treatment in the comfort of your home.
What is home dialysis?
Home haemodialysis
Haemodialysis is performed in your home with a haemodialysis machine that functions like an artificial kidney. Blood is pumped from your body through tubes. It is then filtered and returned to your body.
Peritoneal dialysis
In peritoneal dialysis, the inside lining of your own abdomen acts as a natural filter. Waste is removed from your blood through a cleansing fluid, which is washed in and out of your belly in cycles.

Improved outcomes
Dialysis sessions are more frequent home (five to seven times a week at two hours each), which is similar to the natural functioning of your kidneys. Increased frequency can lead to improved results and fewer side effects.
Considerations for home dialysis
01
Medical and mental stability
You need to be mentally stable to undergo dialysis at home, and free of any medical complications like diabetes and cardiovascular conditions.
02
Willing and able
You must have the willingness and ability to learn and carry out dialysis at home, and be motivated and committed to keep up with the treatment schedule.
03
A hygienic home
Your home needs to be hygienic and have the space to facilitate treatment. It must also have access to quality water, stable electricity supply and sewerage systems.
04
Support from family
A supportive family is beneficial. Your partner, family or caregiver should be involved your training, so they can be there for you when you need them most.
Why choose home dialysis?
At NRC, we believe home dialysis should be your first port of call for renal care. The treatment improves your quality of life, which results in improved adherence to the dialysis prescription and outcomes. Better dialysis outcomes lead to a reduction in hospitalisation and, ultimately, a longer life expectancy.
